The National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) is a Government statutory institution operating under the Ministry of Technology and Science (MoTS), established by the Science and Technology Act of 1997 and the NISIR Establishment Regulations of 1998. As a body corporate, NISIR is mandated to conduct and promote scientific, technological and industrial research in Zambia.
As Zambia’s premier public research institution, NISIR plays a strategic role in advancing innovation, industrial development and evidence-based solutions. In 2025, the Institute aligned its programmes with the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), with focused interventions in Agriculture, Manufacturing and Mining to support national socio-economic development priorities.
